Description
Freswick Mains is a large U-plan steading range dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of rubble with tooled rubble dressings. The steading features a long crow-stepped barn with extensive elevations on the east and west sides, which closes off the east side of the court from the sea. At the north gable, it is connected to Freswick House by a long, coped rubble wall. There is a later addition of a wheel that is sheltered by a lean-to wheelhouse at the east gable, served by a lade running along the east side of the wall. The north and south ranges include byres, former stables, and a cart bay. The roofs are mainly covered with Caithness slate, although some areas use corrugated iron. The west side of the court is enclosed by a high coped rubble wall, which extends along the lane to link the steading with the west side of Freswick House.
