Description
This is a gate lodge and gate piers, likely designed by Hesketh in 1863 as part of the Inverlochy Castle estate, situated by Torlundy. The lodge is a single-storey building with a small attic, featuring a symmetrical three-bay frontage facing the drive and a gable end facing the road. The construction is of coursed, bull-faced rubble with tooled ashlar detailing. A square, projecting porch with a side entrance obscures the central doorway and is flanked by square-headed windows set within pointed architraves. A single, similar window is in the ground floor and gabled attic of the south-east gable. The wallhead is crenellated on both the porch and the south-western frontage with exaggerated crowsteps. Further details include two-pane glazing and coped wallhead stacks at the north and east ends, topped with slate roofing.
Three square gate piers, constructed of ashlar, support shallow pyramidal caps. Decorative cast- and wrought-iron carriage gates are flanked by matching pedestrian gates. The lodge appears on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1870.
