Description
Glenview is a large house dating from 1811, with significant later additions. The exterior is finished with pink harling and has decorative margins of tooled ashlar. The building is arranged in a U-shaped plan, primarily two stories in height. The original central block is two stories with an attic, and features three bays, with a projecting gabled central bay containing a front door that is now masked by a later gabled porch. A circular window is located at the apex of the gable, and there is a chimney stack at the top. Flanking the central bay are three-part arrangements of windows on both the ground and first floors; two modern dormers have been added. To the north and south, two-bay wings extend from the main gables. These wings return to the east, incorporating further single-story wings with attics and a two-bay arrangement. Most windows have four panes of glass. The building has decorative corniced end stacks and slate roofing.
Some extensions likely date from a period of repairs advertised in 1832 and 1878, the latter being undertaken by Matthews and Laurie. Historical references including advertisements for tenders for the 1832 and 1878 repairs can be found in the Inverness Journal and Inverness Courier, respectively, alongside the New Statistical Account of 1835.
