Description

190 Bath Street in Glasgow is a building constructed between 1833 and 1839, likely designed by John Baird No 1. The western end of the building was altered by McWhannel and Rogerson in 1908, and a southwest extension was added in 1920 by Keppie Henderson. This structure consists of three storeys and a basement, with some later additions of attics, and features a block of terraced houses. The ground floor has been modified to include shop fronts on either side of No 194 Bath Street. The building has a total of three sections, each with three bays.

The exterior is made of polished ashlar, which is partially painted, and features channeling at the ground floor. The central section and the pavilions are raised and project outward. There is a cill band on the first floor, an eaves cornice, and a blocking course. All windows are sash and case within architraves, with dropped cills on the ground floor and keystoned lintels at No 200 Bath Street and on Douglas Street. The central bays on the Bath Street elevation and the pavilion sections have consoled and corniced windows with pediments, while the other first-floor windows are simply corniced. The third floor has plain windows. The building has ridge stacks and a slate roof.

On the Bath Street elevation, there are Greek Ionic porticos at the end pavilions and in the center, with double columns at No 194. There are four consoled and corniced entries with fanlights. The building includes a full-service basement with entrances and stone steps, as well as cast-iron railings and gates. A domed rear wing, designed by Keppie, is located at No 200.

The elevation facing Blythswood Street features three bays, with the first return bay being blind and two corniced wallhead stacks. The elevation on Douglas Street consists of three storeys, a basement, and an attic, with five bays that include some blind windows. There is a raised parapet pierced by attic windows and two wallhead stacks rising from the parapet.
