Description
The Askit Laboratory, located at 93 Saracen Street in Glasgow, was designed by William B Whitie and built between 1932 and 1933. This building is a single-storey and two-storey structure with six bays, originally serving as a laboratory and manufactory, and is now used by a printing company. The exterior is primarily made of coursed red sandstone ashlar, featuring an advanced doorcase and end bays on the original building, along with an eaves course and a piended roof.
On the principal elevation, there is a central advanced tall doorcase with a fanlight, flanked by single bays that contain narrow tripartite windows. The outer bays have advanced piended gables with tripartite windows that include stone mullions. To the right, there is a slightly recessed later flat-roofed section with a tripartite window.
The northeast elevation features a later two-storey flat-roofed section with five bays on the right. On the left, there is a return bay of a single-storey flat-roofed addition to the east elevation, which has a door at ground level.
The southeast elevation consists of four bays, which are harled and painted white, with a door located at the second bay. The windows are predominantly metal-framed, with either eight or twelve panes, and the roof is covered with grey slates.
The interior of the building has been substantially altered. Additionally, there is a low red sandstone boundary wall to the east, topped with flat coping and plain railings, featuring a central gate.
