Description

10 and 12 Queen Margaret Drive in Glasgow is a classical tenement building, likely designed by H K Bromhead in 1884. It is a four-storey structure with a basement, featuring a curving facade that consists of 20 bays facing Queen Margaret Drive and Hamilton Drive, along with a six-bay eastern return to Buckingham Street and a double-splayed southern return bay to Ruskin Lane, which has narrow windows in the first bay. The building is constructed of polished ashlar stone, while the rear and side elevations are made of squared rubble. There is a band course at the ground floor level and an eaves cornice. All windows are sash and case.

On the elevation facing Queen Margaret Drive and Hamilton Drive, the bays are arranged in four-bay units, with full-height canted outer bays that have cornices extending from the ground to the second floors. The central bays feature coupled entries at the head of steps that oversail the basement area and are independently supported by console cornices. The central bays on the first and second floors have single-light windows that are also corniced.

The elevation facing Buckingham Street includes a canted corner bay and five southern bays with console corniced openings, while the third floor is plain. The building is topped with a slate roof and has corniced axial stacks.
