Description

167 Bath Street in Glasgow is a building dating from around 1830. It is a two-storey structure with a basement and some later added attics. The building has been altered over time and features cast-iron railings.

Originally, it was a symmetrical classical terrace block with raised five-bay end blocks, although the western pavilion was demolished in 1988. The eastern pavilion, known as Richmond Chambers, was built in 1902 and has four full storeys. The exterior is made of ashlar stone, with some areas painted, and features channelled basements. All windows are sash and case style, set within architraves, with some having 12-pane glazing, primarily in the western pavilion. The entrances are consoled and corniced, each accessed by a flight of steps leading to Bath Street. The building has an eaves cornice, a blocking course, and a slate roof.

On the elevation facing West Campbell Street, there are eight bays arranged in a 3-2-1-2 pattern. The first two return bays from the north are blind, except for the ground and first floor in the northernmost bay. One of the consoled and corniced doorways has been altered to a window. The ground floor features a cornice, while the first-floor windows are corniced with dropped architraves. There is a corniced wallhead stack and a ridge stack.

The elevation to Bath Street includes a ground floor band course and a first-floor cill band. The windows on the ground floor are corniced, and the second-floor windows are also corniced with dropped architraves.

Inside, the building features Ionic hall screens and corniced vestibules for Nos 151, 155, 159, and 163. Additionally, there is a low two-storey mews building located at Nos 144-148 Bath Lane.
