Description
115-117 Ingram Street in Glasgow is a large Baronial warehouse built in 1854, with a facade that was rebuilt in 1986-1987. It occupies a corner site and features a 23-bay facade facing Ingram Street and a 17-bay facade on Brunswick Street. The building has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, constructed from polished ashlar stone that has been cleaned. The basecourse is stepped and roll-moulded, and all openings are also roll-moulded.
On the Ingram Street elevation, there are 2-16-5 bays with the end groups of bays being shallowly advanced. To the extreme left is a pend entrance, and to the right is a deeply bracketed, canopied tripartite main entrance, both featuring shouldered doorways. The other ground floor openings are segmentally arched. The first floor has square-headed windows, while the second floor features either square-headed or shouldered windows alternately. The bays closest to the corner have false plate-tracery on the first and second floors. All windows are sash and case with two-pane glazing. A continuous stepped hoodmould runs along the first floor, with decorative bosses between the windows. The second-floor windows are grouped under hoodmoulds that rise into curvilinear or crowstepped gables.
The Brunswick Street elevation is similarly detailed, with a projecting corbelled two-light oriel at the extreme right gable. Across Ingram Street, there is a square-plan cap-house that is corbelled above the third floor, featuring a saddle-back roof and crowstepped gables. The roofs are covered with slate, and there are some tall square-section cans at the wallhead. The eastern flank of the building is rendered and blind.
