Description
149 Stanmore Road is a three-storey tenement building, likely dating from around 1880. It features three nearly symmetrical ranges, or 'single tenements', that step down the slope. Each range has full-height outer canted windows, an off-centre close door, and paired three-light windows above. The building is constructed of polished ashlar and includes incised detailing inspired by the work of Alexander Thomson. The ground floor is channelled, while the first floor is the most elaborately designed, showcasing arched tympana above the bay windows and consoled hoods over the inner windows. The main frieze and a blocked cornice are also present, along with stacks and a modern tiled roof. Most of the original glazing remains intact, featuring single pane upper and lower sashes, with vertical centre divides only on the inner lights of the bay window. The property is complemented by small front gardens, low boundary walls, and piers.
