Description
47 and 49 Cochrane Street is an early 19th-century, four-storey terrace of tenements and commercial premises, currently undergoing major renovation work as of 1988. The building features a five-bay elevation facing John Street and a fifteen-bay elevation on Cochrane Street, which is divided into three sections of five bays each. The exterior is finished in polished ashlar, with the ground floor channelled and painted.
On the Cochrane Street elevation, there are four pilastered doorpieces topped with cornices. All windows are single light, with architraves on the first and second floors and cornices on the first floor. The original sash and case windows, which had four-pane glazing, no longer have any glazing. Moulded cill bands are present on the first and third floors, along with an eaves cornice and a blocking course.
