Kingston Police Office, 330-346 Paisley Road, Glasgow

The Kingston Public Library, located at 330-346 Paisley Road in Glasgow, is a Grade B listed building designed by Horne and supervised by A B McDonald. It was completed in 1903 and opened in 1904. This three-storey, three-bay structure showcases Edwardian Baroque architecture with an ashlar front and brick sides.

The central entrance features paired doors and a mezzanine window, all beneath a decorative frieze and a scrolled pediment. The flanking bays include bipartite windows at both the ground and mezzanine levels, with a cornice above the mezzanine. Giant pilasters support the pediment and flank the central bay through the first and second floors. The first floor boasts a central four-light window adorned with three Ionic columns and two flanking oculi. The second floor is highlighted by a Diocletian window, accompanied by two flanking windows that have balconies and open segmental pediments. Additional architectural details include a dentil main cornice, a pediment, a deep parapet, and two urns.

To the east, there is a two-storey entrance to the public library, featuring dwarf columns and a mezzanine. The first floor includes an aedicule niche with a statue, along with a cornice and a modern attic.

On the west elevation, the first three bays are constructed of ashlar. The ground floor has two corniced doors and bipartite windows with mezzanines, along with two oculi, one of which is blocked, and a plaque dated 1903. The second floor contains three windows, one of which retains a segmental pediment and balustrade. The remainder of the facade is brick, presenting a three-storey by seven-bay front that faces the halls, with small first-floor windows that are blocked. There is also a two-storey, eight-bay rear projection for the library and a two-storey, three-bay Police Office with sandstone dressings beyond.

Inside, the library features a large hall above a smaller hall. There is a separate glazed tile entrance passage to the library that retains some wooden panelling, elaborate cast-iron brackets for a Corinthian colonnade, and a fine panelled roof.
