Description
Queen Margaret Bridge, built between 1926 and 1929, is a three-arch bridge that spans the River Kelvin at Queen Margaret Drive in Glasgow. The bridge is constructed from reinforced concrete and is faced with polished red sandstone, featuring a solid red granite parapet.
The main segmental arch crosses the river, while subsidiary round arches provide access over the Kelvin Walkway. These lesser arches are set within boldly banded masonry and topped with a cornice, resembling a triumphal arch. The solid polished granite parapet is complemented by balustraded parapets linking the piers over the subsidiary arches. The bridge has wide, curved splayed approaches on both sides.
