Description
3 Hamilton Park Avenue, built around 1855-1858, is part of a classical terrace block featuring Renaissance detailing. The building stands three stories high with a basement.
The main elevation facing Ruskin Place consists of 24 bays arranged in a pattern of 6-12-6, with the outer sections raised and advanced. The façade is finished in polished ashlar, with a channelled ground floor that has rusticated pseudo-pilasters dividing the bays. The entries are coupled and flanked by Corinthian pilasters, and there is a corniced, balustraded parapet. Each bay on the first floor is linked by a cast-iron balcony. The windows are sash and case, set in architraves; the outer bays on the first floor feature consoled, segmentally pedimented designs, while the inner bays are consoled, corniced, and pedimented over the second and third doorpiece. There is a cill band on the first and second floors, a dentil band, and a modillion cornice. The outer bays have a balustraded parapet.
The return elevation to Hamilton Park Avenue mirrors the main elevation, consisting of 11 bays. The second and fourth bays on the first and second floors are blind. The ground floor is channelled, and there is a raised basement. A cornice runs along the ground floor. At Nos 1 and 3, there are double return steps with a balustraded die parapet leading to the raised ground floor. The doorpiece at No 3 is pilastered. The first floor has a cill band, with the two outer and two central bays being segmentally pedimented, while the remaining bays are corniced.
