Description

Albany Chambers is a four-storey and attic classical commercial building located at 532 Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow, designed by Sir J J Burnet (Burnet, Son and Campbell) between 1896 and 1897. The building features six bays and exhibits a style that combines classical elements with French Renaissance influences, similar to Charing Cross Mansions.

The exterior is finished in polished ashlar, with a channelled appearance at the ground level where it remains unaltered. The entrance to the upper floors is accentuated by an open, broken pediment. The three eastern bays are symmetrical, showcasing a recessed, canted window at the first floor's central window, which is framed by an aedicule. A balcony connects three canted windows on the second floor, with the outer windows extending to the third storey. These bays are separated by a giant order of fluted Ionic pilasters, and the building features an eaves cornice.

The roof includes three dormers, each topped with shaped pediments. The western side has three bays, with a narrow bay on the west and two three-storey canted bays on the east, which feature an aedicule gable above. Additionally, there is aedicule detailing above the central lights on the second floor and two two-light windows in the attic.
