Description

9 Kingsborough Gardens in Glasgow is a mid-terrace block of four houses designed by architect D Woodburn Sturrock around 1899. The houses share similar details with the adjacent 13-41 Kingsborough Gardens but feature a different arrangement of bays. The facade consists of 9 bays arranged in a 3-2-4 pattern, with No 5 having a 3-bay elevation, while Nos 9 and 11 create a symmetrical 4-bay unit with paired doorpieces.

The buildings are two storeys high, with attics and a basement, constructed from polished red ashlar. Each house has steps leading up to the entrance doorpiece, which is flanked by glazed sidelights. The entrance features double leaf panelled doors topped with a glazed fanlight. Above the door at No 5 is a bipartite window, while at No 5, there are two single light windows with bracketed cills. A prominent feature is the two-storey 4-light bow window that rises from the basement, with the entrance door located to the left at No 11 and to the right at Nos 7 and 9. The lower casements are made of plate glass, and the upper panes, side lights, and fanlights incorporate leaded or coloured glass or small pane glazing.

The design includes a band course above the ground level, and timber modillions support the overhanging eaves. Dormers are present at No 5, featuring 3-light bow dormers with conical roofs flanking bipartite dormers. The houses have skews at the party walls, corniced axial stacks, and slate roofs. The rear elevation is finished in stugged ashlar.

In front, there is a low ashlar retaining wall leading to the steps and garden, with cast-iron railings along the steps and modern railings over the garden walls.
