Description

D Woodburn Sturrock, architect; circa 1899. Mid-terrace block

of 4 houses, similar in detail to 13-41 Kingsborough Gardens,

but with a different bay arrangement. 9 bays arranged 3-2-4

with No 5 a 3-bay elevation and Nos 9 and 11 forming a

symmetrical 4-bay unit with paired doorpieces. 2 storeys,

attics and basement; polished red ashlar.

Each house with steps over basement to doorpiece flanked by

glazed sidelights; double leaf panelled doors with glazed

fanlight. Bipartite window above door (at No 5, 2 single

light windows with bracketted cills). 2-storey 4-light bow

window rises from basement; flanking door at No 5, to left at

No 11, to right at Nos 7 and 9. Lower casements plate glass;

upper panes, side and fanlights with leaded/coloured glass or

small pane glazing. Band course over ground; timber

modillions support overhanging eaves. Dormers at No 5;

3-light bow dormers with conical roof flank bipartite

dormers. Skews at party walls, corniced axial stacks, slate

roofs. Stugged ashlar rear elevation.

Low ashlar retaining wall to steps and garden; cast-iron

railings to steps, modern over garden walls.
