Description

The Old Bridge, also known as the Inner Bridge, at Guardbridge is an 18th-century structure consisting of three segmental arches constructed from droved ashlar. The central span measures approximately 30 feet, and is supported by a very heavy north pier with cutwaters, standing about 21 feet high. The bridge was carefully widened on its downstream side during the first half of the 19th century. The bridge is now disused. Information regarding the bridge can be found in the Old Statistical Account volume 18, page 590.
