Description
This is a 15th-century bridge spanning the River Eden, located between Guardbridge, and situated partially within the parishes of St Andrews and St Leonard's. The bridge is constructed of ashlar and features six semi-circular, chamfered arches. Large cutwaters are incorporated into the design and extend upwards to provide refuges. The roadway is 12 1/2 feet wide. The parapets were replaced around the 18th century. A panel bearing the arms of Archbishop James Beaton indicates repairs undertaken between 1522 and 1539. The bridge was formerly a scheduled monument, initially scheduled on 9 February 1923 and descheduled on 23 March 2016.
