Description
This is an 18th century farmhouse, potentially incorporating earlier fabric, which was significantly extended and refaced in the early 19th century. The main block is rectangular, with a south-facing aspect, and features two storeys over a basement and attic, arranged in five bays. Three return bays extend to the east and west. The house is constructed of ashlar stone.
The south elevation’s central three bays project slightly and represent the original 18th century house. A central, glazed porch with a shouldered head doorway and pierced balustrade is positioned within these bays. Windows on this elevation are deeply recessed, featuring moulded reveals, margins, and bracketed cills with cornices to the ground floor. The outer bays each contain a single window on each floor. A band course sits between the ground and first floors, and an eaves cornice and parapet extend along the east and west elevations. The east elevation mirrors the south with an advanced northern bay containing a similar porch. A later conservatory has been attached to the west. The rear features a two-storey wing, likely raised at a later date, constructed of whin rubble with contrasting long and short dressings. Corniced stacks with three-panelled flues are visible at wallhead on the east and west sides. The roof is covered in slate.
