Description
The North West Range of Gibliston Mill is an early 19th century building consisting of two L-plan blocks that form an open rectangular courtyard. Some alterations were made by the architect Sir Robert Lorimer.
The south principal front is symmetrically designed, featuring two storeys and six bays. The exterior is harled with ashlar dressings, showcasing advanced, broad gabled outer bays. Each outer bay has a segmental-headed carriageway, with the right bay flanked by inserted windows. Above, there were originally mullioned segmental openings, but the left bay has been altered to a rectangular window, and there are blind oculi in the gable heads. The inner bays contain single windows, with doors located in the bays between them. A continuous cill course runs along the first floor, and there is a single raised window with a piended dormer head that has been altered by Lorimer.
An external forestair on the north elevation leads to a first-floor door with a swept roof. The building features axial stacks and a slate roof. There is also an altered rubble-built block that extends northwards. Adjacent to this is a single-storey rubble-built block, which has an ashlar-faced symmetrical five-bay west elevation. This elevation includes a segmental-headed carriageway in the slightly advanced central bay, flanked by bipartite windows, with a door in the outer bays. The roof is made of pantiles with a slate easing course.
