Description
43 Double Row in Charlestown is a row of six single-storey cottages built in the mid-18th century. The cottages are symmetrical, each featuring three bays with a central door and flanking windows.
The south elevation is characterized by its symmetrical arrangement, while the west elevation has a plain gable with a piended outshot to the left and a window to the right. The north elevation includes contemporary and later extensions, and the east elevation is also a plain gable.
The cottages have replacement fenestration and enlarged window openings. They feature a continuous piended roof covered with clay pantiles, which are glazed black on Nos 40, 41, and 45, while No 44 has modern tiles and a slated easing course. There are gable end stacks on No 45 and five ridge stacks. The interiors were not seen during the last inspection in 2000.
