Description
Charlestown Harbour is a mid 18th century structure that was extended in the earlier to mid 19th century and further extended to the east in the later 19th century. The harbour features a sickle-shaped inner pier to the east, which dates from the mid 18th century and has a rounded end. To the west, there is a truncated, squared-off section that was added in the earlier to mid 19th century, creating an inner harbour. Two long, round-ended linear piers from the earlier to mid 19th century enclose the outer harbour. The eastern pier, built up in the later 19th century, creates an additional outer harbour to the east of the ballast bank. The construction includes large sandstone blocks.
