Description

The Former Waid Academy Annexe, designed by William Williamson in 1901, is a single-storey, 9-bay school building with a broadly T-shaped plan and features Art Nouveau influences. The building has symmetrical gables, with a slightly advanced 3-bay gable at the center, flanked by dormer windows that have pointed-arch pediments breaking the eaves at the 2nd and 8th bays. It is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and an ashlar base course. The gables and dormers are adorned with carved thistle motifs.

A timber roof lantern with slightly battered angles is topped with classical hoodmoulds, an ogee-cap, and a metal weathervane finial. The rear of the building features rounded and corbelled corner angles, as well as rounded pediments on the dormers that break the eaves. The roofs have a slightly swept pitch and are piended.

The windows predominantly feature multi-pane glazing in timber sash and case frames, and the building has cast iron rainwater goods and grey slate roofing. In front of the building, there is a sloping grassed bank with a stepped retaining wall that has chamfered copes. The 1955 addition to the west elevation by Fife County Architects is not considered of special interest in listing terms.
