Description
North Lodge, dated 1861, is a single-story, gabled lodge house, originally situated alongside Strathenry House. A modern, flat-roofed extension finished in dry-dash render has been added to the northwest side. A moulded tablet featuring intertwined initials above the date 1861 adorns the front of the lodge. The building is constructed of squared and snecked whinstone, with architraved windows and door, and some droved quoins.
The south elevation, the main facade, features a central door beneath a small gable; a recessed blank wall sits to the right, and a gable with a window and the date inscription is to the left. The west elevation has a projecting gable to the right with a window, a window to the left, and the extension adjoining at the outer left, with a further window. The east elevation features a projecting gable with a window to the left, a catslide roof to the right leading to a boarded door, and an adjacent window in the return wall. A small recessed projection abuts the extension on the outer right. The north elevation has a gablehead window visible above the extension, and two windows below.
The majority of the casement windows have a 6-pane glazing pattern, although some have modern plate glass. The roof is covered in graded grey slates, and the building has paired ashlar stacks with cavetto coping and polygonal cans. Deeply overhanging eaves are finished with moulded bargeboards. The arrangement of the stacks is similar to designs by Burn for Strathenry House and is also replicated at South Lodge.
