West Lodges (South), Woodhead Street, High Valleyfield

West Lodges (North) on Woodhead Street in High Valleyfield are a pair of small, square neo-classical gate lodges made of ashlar stone, likely built in the late 18th century. They originally served as the west entrance to Valleyfield House, which was demolished in the mid-20th century. The lodges first appear on a map of the Valleyfield Estate from around 1815. They are oriented north to south, with a channelled gate pier next to the inner side of each lodge. The main (west) and rear (east) elevations feature a blind round arch in the center, with a single window opening that is now blocked. A decorative roundel depicting a horse's head and crown can still be seen on the rear of the north lodge. The inner elevations have a single door opening with plain surrounds, where a uPVC door was inserted in 2023. The original pyramidal roofs and central chimneystacks, which collapsed before 2007, have been replaced with flat roofs in recent years (2023), hidden behind corniced parapets.
