Description

Cairnie House is a two-storey and basement house with a basement, built shortly after 1812 and likely extended a little later. It is asymmetrical in design, with four windows on the front and a central, projecting canted bay facing south. The eastern section of the house is set back from the main facade. The west front, which features the main entrance, has a three-window bow and a cast iron balcony. The house is constructed of whin rubble with droved freestone dressings and margins. The diagonal shafts of the chimneys have been replaced with Victorian fireclay columnar pots. The house was built for Mrs Melville, who acquired the property in 1812.
