Description

The South Gates, part of Balcarres House, date from 1870. The gates themselves are likely from the 17th or 18th century, brought from Cremona. The piers and curved approach walls are constructed of white freestone, with panels of red brick. Very fine wrought-iron gates complete the composition. Drawings for the gates' setting up were created by J Caslake, and are signed with his address at 102 Mary Street, Euston Road, although the finished result slightly differs from the original design.
