Description
Randerston Farmhouse is a late 16th-century Laird's house with a vaulted basement and an L-plan layout. The original building comprises two stories and a garret, with a circular stair tower corbelled to square at attic level, and corbelled angle turrets featuring later oversailing roofs at the north and south angles. A single-story wing, likely dating back to around 1800, was added later and has been altered. The exterior of this wing is finished with a modern harl and margins, topped with a crowstepped and slated roof. The interior has been modernised.
The house was originally built by the Myrtoun family and was purchased by the Moncrieffs in the early 17th century. It was then bought by Michael Balfour of Pitmedden in 1663.
