Run Of Six Iron Footbridges Over Burn, Cambo House, Cambo Estate

The run of six iron footbridges over the burn at Cambo House dates from around 1800 to 1830. These decorative single-span segmental-arched cast iron footbridges are set within the designed landscape of the Cambo Estate. Some of the bridges feature cast-iron balusters and stone abutments. Each bridge has a pierced arch ring, a series of rings in the spandrels, and a moulded band at the top. It is noted that some bridges are in poor condition.

Bridges 1, 2, and 3 (from south to north) are located at coordinates NO 60366 11221, NO 60359 11241, and NO 60370 11301. Bridges 1 and 2 form a pair, both adorned with elaborate cast-iron balusters featuring curvilinear and geometric patterns with floral details and open splayed ends. Bridges 2 and 3 are situated within the walled garden and have timber decking, while Bridge 3 includes later timber railings.

Bridges 4, 5, and 6 (from south to north) are located at NO 60424 11480, NO 60622 11593, and NO 60776 11657. This group of three bridges is set in woodland. Bridge 4 has slender cast-iron balusters and a railing with curved ends, while the other two bridges have modern timber railings.
