Description
The memorials within the Carnock Old Burial Ground include grave markers, grave slabs, and burial monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries. A burial enclosure on the east side of the former church features a memorial stone from 1646 dedicated to John Row. This stone has a large pediment above the inscription, adorned with a thistle finial and scroll decoration on the sides. Several grave markers display intricate inscriptions and imagery, including a well-preserved table stone for Andrew Gibson from 1624, which features a coat of arms in high relief.
There is a roofless former watch house, likely built in the 1800s, located to the east of the old church against the west wall of the former manse. This watch house is constructed of sandstone rubble, and the internal west wall contains remnants of a fireplace.
To the north of the old church stands a war memorial in the form of an obelisk, inscribed with a St Andrews Cross. Erected in 1923, it has had names of the fallen from the Second World War and the Iraq War added to it.
The raised burial ground area is enclosed by retaining walls made of plain sandstone rubble.
