Description
The steading and farm buildings at Newton of Collessie date from the early 19th century and form a group at the entrance to the farmyard. The main steading is a two-storey structure built of rubble, featuring ground floor segmental arches that have been infilled, and plain upper windows. Notably, there is an inset carved stone dated 1636. The roof is slated, with rubble-built sections that have pantiles at the rear.
To the east of the steading, there are four parallel byres with hipped roofs, also constructed of rubble. These buildings have pantiled roofs and freestone dressings, and the south wall includes a wide entry with stone piers and a timber lintel.
At the rear, to the north, there is a polygonal horse-mill that remains intact, with some infilling of breeze blocks. This structure features a steep pantiled roof and curved ridge tiles, supported by rubble piers.
