Description

Laigh Cottage, located at 26 Main Street, Kilconquhar, is an 18th-century single-storey, four-bay cottage, originally constructed as two separate dwellings. The cottage features stucco render, painted white, and has an irregular arrangement of windows. It contains a door and a small window to the second bay. The windows are timber sash and case with multi-pane glazing of varying sizes. The roof is covered in red pantiles, and there is an end stack to the east gable.

A cast-iron standpipe, patented in 1902 by Glenfield and Kennedy, Kilmarnock, is situated on the far right side of the building. It is one of only three surviving examples along Kilconquhar Main Street.

Laigh Cottage is a notable example of an 18th-century dwelling, retaining its original character and featuring the interest of thick rendered walls within the streetscape. It is visible on the First Edition Ordnance Survey Map of 1852.
