Longniddry Mains Steading, Main Street, Longniddry

Longniddry Mains Steading, dated 1867, is a quadrangular steading featuring two single-storey and attic, T-plan, three-bay cottages that form the wings and face the main road. The building is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with stugged ashlar dressings, and it has hoodmoulds above the major openings.

Each cottage has a central entrance with two-leaf doors and strip fanlights, flanked by windows. The cottage on the left includes skylights, while the cottage on the right features two polygonal-roofed canted dormers in the attic. There are also additions at the rear.

Access to the steading is through a gabled, round-arched pend that has a ball finial and a date plaque, leading into a courtyard. A rear linking range, which may be a later addition, encloses a U-plan to form the courtyard. The roof is covered with brown pantiles, some of which have been repaired with red tiles, and there are ball finials on the gables.

The interior has not been seen.
