Description
2 Phantassie Square is a row of 12 single-storey farm cottages built around 1860 by architects Peddie and Kinnear. The cottages are constructed from roughly squared whinstone rubble with stugged ashlar dressings. The central block features depressed-arched pends on the fourth bay from each side, set in an advanced gable that includes a blind arrow-slit window and a finial. The doors are adorned with strip fanlights and are flanked by windows. There are also two blocked windows and a lancet window above on the gable ends.
The rear of the building is harled and has undergone some alterations. The cottages have sash and case windows with a 16-pane glazing pattern and broad mullions. The roofs are covered with grey slates and have ashlar coped skews with gablet skewputts. Ashlar paired diamond ridge stacks are present, along with a single stack at the gableheads.
