North Cottage, Pitcox

Central Cottage in Pitcox dates from around 1860 and is a single-storey, symmetrical pair of cottages, originally designed as three. The structure incorporates materials from earlier buildings and features squared and snecked, stugged pink rubble with ashlar dressings and chamfered arrises, as well as segmental lintels above the openings.

The north and south elevations each have three bays. They feature a bracketed gabled canopy over a central door, which is accompanied by a 2-pane fanlight and a boarded door, with windows located in the flanking bays.

The east elevation has five bays, with three windows in the center bays. The outer bays are slightly advanced and gabled, showcasing hoodmoulded bipartite windows and square blank panels in the apex.

The west elevation also consists of five bays, with an advanced gabled porch at the center that includes doorways on the return sides and a window to the west. The flanking bays contain windows, while the advanced outer bays are gabled with single windows.

The sash and case windows feature a 6-pane glazing pattern. Additional details include timber eaves brackets, decorative brackets, and barge boarding on the door canopies. The roof is covered with purple slates and has coped ridge stacks.
