Lodge, Broomhill Hospital, Kilsyth Road, Kirkintilloch

The boundary walls and gatepiers at Broomhill Hospital on Kilsyth Road in Kirkintilloch date from the earlier to mid-19th century, with an extension added in the later 19th century. This single-storey structure features a partial basement and is designed as a lozenge-shaped classical lodge with a rectangular-plan rear extension supported by the basement. It is constructed from tooled red sandstone ashlar, highlighted by an advanced polished red sandstone base course, quoins, and window and door surrounds. The sandstone boundary wall is complemented by red sandstone ashlar piers.

On the southwest (principal) elevation, there is a central round arched door surround with chamfered arrises, although the door is currently filled with a modern metal security door. Flanking the door are round arched windows with chamfered arrises, and a later ventilation grille is located below the left window.

The southeast and northwest (side) elevations feature a three-bay canted end with a round arched window on each face. The northeast (rear) elevation includes an advanced rectangular-plan extension with an irregularly fenestrated harled basement, which has a central window and an additional window on the right return. Above this, the sandstone upper level, which forms the ground floor of the main lodge, has a single window on the right return. Harled entrance steps with stone detailing lead to the entrance door, which is flanked by windows. The original timber sliding sash and case windows are concealed by security shutters and mesh. The roof is a piended small scotch slate design with lead ridgings, flashings, and valleys, featuring deep overhanging eaves with timber facings on the main lodge. The painted cast iron rainwater goods are complemented by a tall central red sandstone stack, which has a heavy base course, a chamfered main stack with paired scoop detail, and a moulded neck cornice, although the cans are now missing.

The boundary wall, gatepiers, and gates consist of a sandstone rubble wall with shaped coping, which terminates in tall red sandstone ashlar square gatepiers featuring a base course, plain shaft, and flat moulded caps. Dwarf ashlar walls support decorative cast iron railings with fleur de lys style finials between additional piers, providing vehicular access through the gates.
