Description

18 St Germain Street in Catrine is a late 19th century, two-storey and attic tenement building that features shops on the ground floor. It is located on a corner site, completing an earlier terrace. The building is constructed from squared and snecked red sandstone and has architraved surrounds to the first-floor windows, which have segmental lintels. There is an eaves course and profiled guttering, with stop-chamfered arrises at the ground level.

The facade facing St Germain Street has three bays, with an additional curved corner bay on the outer left. At the center, there are paired deep-set doorways, with the left doorway leading to the tenement. Broad shop windows flank these doorways, and there is a broad door to the corner bay, all beneath a uniting cornice. Each bay features a regular window above on the first floor, including the corner bay. The corner bay and the outer right bay have canted, slate-hung, piend-roofed dormers.

On the Ford Street side, there is a blank gabled bay that breaks the eaves, flanked on the left by a narrow bay with a window on each floor. The first-floor windows are timber sash and case with two-pane lower sashes, while the shop windows are large and consist of four panes. The dormers and the first-floor window facing Ford Street have modern glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there is an ashlar coped skew on the mutual gable with a stack.
