Description
The Temple is a pair of ruined, battlemented square lodges situated within the policies of Dumfries House. Originally, they marked the termination of an avenue that ran on the main axis to the north of the mansion. The lodges are set diagonally and flank a screen wall that includes a central gateway. The screen wall and lodges are ornamented with pointed Gothic panels, quatrefoil niches, and other decorative details. The structure is now largely obscured from view and in a ruined state. References for additional details can be found in the Cumnock Parish list relating to Dumfries House.
