Description
Castle Stewart is a tower house from the late 15th century to early 16th century that is now in ruins. It has a rectangular plan, with the north and west walls still standing up to the corbelled machicolation line at the eaves. The south and east walls have completely collapsed. The structure is built from rubble, featuring chamfered angles made from small rubble stones. Some chamfered openings remain. There are bull-nosed corbels that once supported a wall walk. Notably, finely carved jambs of a chimneypiece are still visible at the first floor hall level, resembling the style and decoration found at Cardonness in Gatehouse-of-Fleet Burgh, Stewartry.
