Description

Livingstone House is an earlier 18th century house with early 19th century additions. It features a symmetrical design with classical details, standing two storeys high with an attic. Originally rectangular, the house has a later west wing that creates an L-shape. The south elevation is harled, while the other sides are finished in painted rubble. The building has smooth rusticated quoins at all corners and polished raised margins with chamfered arrises.

The main south elevation has five bays, with the central three bays slightly advanced and topped with a pediment. A 19th century hipped porch is located at the centre, featuring raised angle margins. The door has a lugged architrave that has been re-used from the original doorway and consists of double-leaf panelled doors. The ground floor windows have been widened in the 19th century, while the upper windows retain their original dimensions. All windows are sash and case with 12-pane glazing, and there is an octagonal window in the centre of the pediment tympanum. The roof is piended slate with central axial corniced stacks that have angle margins.

On the north elevation, the original design is similar to the south, but there is a 19th century two-storey gabled jamb that extends at right angles. This section features re-used quoins at the angles and some re-used window margins. The gable has timber bracketed eaves, a slate roof, and a coped axial stack.

There is also a small single-storey wing to the north, which has rusticated quoins and a gabled slate roof with an end stack. To the west, there is a piend-roofed painted rubble outbuilding that adjoins the 19th century wing.
