7 Castle Gardens, Kirkcudbright

1 Castle Gardens in Kirkcudbright is an early 19th-century terrace of houses. The buildings are two stories high with an attic and consist of two-bay houses that share pends at numbers 1 and 3, and 5 and 7. The construction features rubble with margins, while number 7 is pebble-dashed, and number 9 has rusticated quoins at the angle. Each house has a door and one window on the ground floor, some of which include fanlights, along with two windows on the first floor. There are two dormers for each house, except for number 9. Most roofs are piended and canted. The houses at numbers 1, 7, 9 have 12-pane sash windows, while number 3 has 4-pane sashes. The slate roofs are complemented by the two bays of number 2 Castle Street, which return into Castle Gardens and feature rusticated angle quoins.

In a revision from 1988, it was noted that only the facades of numbers 7 and 9 are painted, and number 5 has sandwiched double glazing added around 1987.
