Description
Moss-Side in Carronbridge is a picturesque single-storey and attic cottage designed by architect Charles Howitt in the style of William Burn, built around 1858. The building features stugged and snecked pink ashlar with chamfered reveals, shallow relieving arches, and painted wooden mullions. The windows are either single or mullioned with lying-pane glazing.
The west elevation, facing the road, consists of four bays, with a wide gable that is advanced to the right and a gabled porch in the re-entrant angle. There is an identical porch to the left, beyond a tripartite window, which has a gabled wall-head dormer above it. The cottage has axial stacks with paired diamond flues, bracketed eaves, and finialed gables, all topped with slate roofs. A two-bay rear wing is located alongside the main structure, which is set behind an ashlar-coped low wall featuring battered square gatepiers.
