Description
4 Parton in Parton Village was built in 1901 and is a picturesque curved terrace of single-storey cottages that originally contained 9 dwellings. In 1971, the cottages were redivided to create 6 dwellings, but they still retain all the original porches from the initial layout.
The exterior features coursed rubble walling with polished red sandstone margins. Each cottage has timber gabled porches topped with ceramic finials and double-leaf doors. The windows are single light, sash and case style with a 4-pane glazing pattern, while the left window of No 1 is bipartite with 2-pane sashes.
The cottages also have timber gabled dormers with ceramic finials, and the roofs are slate with coped, axial stacks that have octagonal cans and ceramic cresting. The rear elevations were significantly altered around 1971, featuring enlarged windows, French doors, and box dormers.
The gardens are enclosed by low coped walls that support cast-iron railings. At the rear, there is an octagonal facet-roofed brick lavatory with 8 timber boarded doors, a slate roof, and a timber fleche ventilator.
