Description

Kellyside is a two-storey, three-bay Arts and Crafts villa built in 1905 by William Kerr. It features a multi-gabled design constructed from finely jointed red engineering brick, complemented by black and white half-timbered gables. The building is characterized by bowed windows and prominent tall chimney stacks.

The principal elevation is highlighted by an advanced triple-gabled section, which includes a central wide round-arched veranda that provides shade for a deep-set garden entrance. This bay is flanked by two-storey bow windows with projecting eaves. To the right, there is a tall stack, while to the left, a single-storey wing features a distinctive round window. The entrance elevation showcases a central hooded porch supported by Doric columns, with flanking bipartite windows and a shallow canted window on the first floor. A slightly advanced half-timbered gable adds to the design. The north elevation has a broad gable adorned with fishscale tiles at the gablehead, and there is a service wing to the northwest.

The villa's windows feature multi-pane glazing set in margined timber casement and top hopper designs, with some aluminium fixed lights. The roof, covered in late 20th-century cement tiles, is topped with tall coped stacks, and the building is equipped with cast-iron rainwater goods that have decorative hoppers.

Inside, the Arts and Crafts style is evident in the timber-panelled stair hall, which includes round-headed arches and a stained glass roof light. The principal rooms have simple plasterwork, while the service wing has been adapted and modernised.
