Description
This building, located at 6B St Margaret's Road in Edinburgh, dates from around 1870 and is a two-storey, three-bay villa with a recessed service wing to the east. It is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone with polished dressings. The villa features overhanging eaves, chamfered reveals, and decorative iron finials on the gables and dormers. The porch and dormers also have decorative pierced bargeboards, and there are hoodmoulds over the ground floor windows.
On the north entrance elevation, there is an advanced gabled porch at the center, positioned in a re-entrant angle, with a bay to the outer right. Above the porch, there is a single window on the first floor and a gabled dormer. The outer right bay has a bipartite window at ground level and a hoodmoulded window above on the first floor, along with a window in the gablehead. The outer left bay features a bipartite window at ground level, a window above on the first floor, and another gabled dormer. The lower two-storey, three-bay service wing is recessed to the outer left and has an advanced and gabled central bay.
The east elevation has an M-shaped gable with a wallhead stack situated between the gables. There are single windows on both the ground and first floors. The west elevation includes a forestair leading to No 6B, with plate glass sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring shouldered and corniced wallhead stacks, and a box dormer on the west side. The interior was not seen in 1991.
The property is enclosed by a low coped boundary wall along the street and has high mutual walls.
