Description
The Garden Temple at Hatton House in Edinburgh, dated 1704, is a classical garden structure featuring a rusticated round arch with the Lauderdale arms depicted in the keystone. The arch opening is framed by twin fluted Ionic pilasters, and above the two right pilasters is a datestone inscribed with 'Anno dom MDC 1704'. The walls at the rear and sides are made of rubble.
Inside, the temple has a segmental-vaulted roof made of channelled ashlar, with a raised iron plate against the back wall. The side walls include recessed blind windows that are adorned with fluted architraves.
