Description
12 Ventnor Terrace is a pair of symmetrical houses built around 1880, featuring two stories and an attic with four bays. The exterior is made of cream sandstone polished ashlar, with bull-faced squared and snecked moulded render on the east side, and rubble on the west and rear. There is a base course and decorative motifs carved from stone above the lights of the corniced canted windows.
The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a single storey and basement with an attic. It features shouldered arched doorways in the outer left and penultimate right bays, with panelled doors and narrow sidelights alongside. The doorways are topped with plate glass fanlights, and there are pitched roof dormers above with decoratively carved bargeboards. To the right of the doorways, there are full-height, three-light canted windows, and above them, three-light canted pitched roof dormers with similar bargeboards.
On the east elevation, there is a full-height, three-light canted window on the outer left, and the cornice is raised at the center above a carved roundel between the floors.
The windows are timber, sash and case, with plate glass. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring fish scale patterns on the canted windows on the north side. The canted bay on the east has a polygonal roof topped with a cast iron finial, and there are rendered and coped wallhead and ridge stacks with moulded cans.
The interior was not seen in 1996. The property also retains its original cast iron railings around the areas.
