Description

17 Crawfurd Road is a late 19th century, two-storey and attic, seven-bay classical terrace consisting of three houses. The exterior features cream sandstone coursed rubble with polished ashlar dressings. Notable elements include a base course, key pattern friezes between the ground and first floors, canted bays, roll-moulded architraves, advanced bracketed cills, lugged architraves, and cast-iron window guards on the first-floor single windows. The building is topped with a cornice and carved urn finials on the gables, rounded quoins, and skews adorned with scallop shell skewputts.

On the south elevation, there are round arched doorways in bays 2, 3, and 6, each featuring panelled doors and plate glass fanlights. These doorways are flanked by engaged red sandstone Corinthian columns and carved heraldic panels. Above, the first floor has single windows, and there are round arched dormers with oval lights. A central, full-height, three-light canted window breaks the eaves, while the advanced outer bays have curvilinear gables, full-height three-light canted windows with decorative cast iron brattishing, and single oval windows set in the gableheads.

The windows are made of plate glass and timber, with sash and case designs. The roof is pitched with grey slate and features deep cornices at the ridge stacks and tall decorative moulded cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is enclosed by a low coped boundary wall along the street, with replacement railings.
