Description

15-16 Teviot Place in Edinburgh is a four-storey, four-bay tenement block built in 1872 by Robert Thornton Shiells, designed in the Scots Baronial style. The building features squared and snecked stugged sandstone with polished dressings, and the ground floor is painted. The shops at the ground level have pilastraded fronts with a continuous cornice and fascia, and there is a timber panelled door with a plate glass fanlight leading to the flats in the centre.

The windows have stop-chamfered, tabbed surrounds, with bipartite windows on the first and second floors at the outer right and left. A stepped string course marks the third floor, and there is an engaged tourelle with a pepper-pot roof and weathervane on the outer right. The two central bays feature finialled, pedimented dormer-headed windows, while the outer left has a finialled gable-headed bipartite window that breaks the eaves.

The building has timber sash and case windows with a glazing pattern of plate glass and four panes. The roofs are covered with grey slates and have double pitches with crowstepped skews. There are corniced end and ridge stacks that extend to the eaves and feature circular cans.
