(Chessel's Court N Block), 242-244 (Even Nos) Canongate

Chessel's Court N Block, located at 242-244 Canongate, was built between 1963 and 1964 by Robert Hurd and Partners as a free version of an original design from 1769. This four-storey and attic tenement features six bays and a central gable at the wall head. The exterior is constructed of squared and snecked rubble with ashlar dressings. A wide, moulded basket-arch pedestrian pend is located at the center, providing access to Chessel's Court, with a shop positioned to the right.

At the third floor center, there are a pair of round-arched windows. The gable has a two-window nepus design with an oculus at the center and a stack at the apex. The rear elevation features a slightly advanced four-bay central section gable, adorned with urn finials at the shoulders. The building predominantly showcases 15-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, topped with grey slate. It has coped skews, gable stacks, and an end stack to the west, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
