Description

West Craigie Farmhouse is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay farmhouse designed in a symmetrical T plan with Jacobean details, likely by Robert Bell. The building is constructed from tooled, squared, and snecked grey rubble sandstone, with coursed stone on the south elevation. It features a base course, projecting cills, consoled cornices above the ground floor windows, and droved and polished quoins.

On the south (entrance) elevation, there is an advanced gabled central bay with a pilastered and corniced doorway, which includes a panelled timber door with a fanlight above. Above the doorway is a single window, and there are single windows in the outer left and right bays on both floors.

The west elevation has two bays, with blind windows on both floors in the right bay and single windows in the left bay. The east elevation also has two bays, featuring single windows on both floors in the right bay and a single window on the first floor in the left bay.

The north elevation includes a single-storey and attic wing that adjoins the centre, with an irregular arrangement of windows. This wing is extended by a lean-to on the left return.

The farmhouse is fitted with 12-pane timber sash and case windows and has a grey slate roof. It features corniced gablehead stacks, a tall corniced ridge stack on the rear wing, moulded skews, and console-bracket skewputts.

The property is complemented by gatepiers with pyramidal caps in a quadrant entrance arrangement, along with squared rubble sandstone walls that have rounded coping stones. There is also a low rubble boundary wall at the rear of the house.
